Watching the Eclipse online

All the China has just seen a solar eclipse from 8:00 to 11:00 (Beijing time). The Yangtze River valley was lucky enough to experience a total one. I feel it was a pity not being able to watch it through my eyes.

What I could do is just sit in front of my laptop, watching the CCTV and QQLIVE, waiting anxiously the moment when the sun was totally covered by the moon.

There were many cities in which different observation stations were built up. Fortunately, most of them were not bothered by the thick clouds. So I saw many unique scenes in different places such as Rikaze, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Anqing, Tongling, Hangzhou, Tianhuangping, Shanghai and Zhoushan.

It was really awesome when the last part of the sun was eaten by the moon. At that time, the edge of the moon reflected some of the light emitted by the sun so that a bright spot would appear, which looked like a silver ring given to the moon by the sun.

In my hometown, there was also a partial solar eclipse. I saw some of the pictures uploaded by my fellow high school classmates.

It is said that in the year 2035, Beijing will experience another solar eclipse. I hope that I will then be in Beijing and the weather will be fine enough to appreciate the splendid astronomical phenomenon.

Yes log

I: I got my deposit card today.
Bev: Oh, you got your debit card.
I: Yes, the debit card.

So cold...

I'm right here in the library, UM's undergraduate library. I can feel nothing but cold now.

It has been bothering me when I started to study in the lab in Chem Building. The air conditioner has such a strong power that I cannot stand. I had to pull on the only long-sleeve clothes I have taken with me. But it's dirty now... I didn't wear it, so I'm frozen.

It has something to do with type of people. The white people often feel it's just ok wearing T-shirt under such a temperature, while we Chinese students are complaining that we haven't brought enough clothes.

Next time when I'm in the library, I will put on my thicker clothes, however dirty they are...

Shopping at Kroger

A small shopping at Kroger took me 2 hours. Is it worthwhile?

Buses here are quite different from those in China. They will travel according to a schedule that has been made previously. We may need to wait for an hour to get on a bus. So, it's quite an accident to miss one.

I think the population accounts for the difference. In Beijing or some other cities in China, you may expect another bus full of people even if the provious one has just left for not a few minutes. But here, though only one bus in an hour, you can still find that over half of the seats are empty. China has a large population, more buses are necessary.

So, in this, I like China better. Inspite of the crowdness in bus and the frequent traffic jam, I can go wherever I like without waiting at the bus stop worrying about whether I can get on a bus. Maybe next time, I should plan my shopping trip before I set off.

Trip to Pfizer

Yesterday we went on a trip to Pfizer, a famous pharmaceutic factory. But acturally I knew nothing about it before we were given some introductions...

We were divided into 4 groups after several overview speeches. Then we ate our lunch. A sanwich and some cookies are not enough for me... I still wanted more, but no more. After that, we got the lab coat and protection glasses. The glasses were so tight, they made me feel a pain. We were told that it is really cold in the factory before we went there. So we put on too much clothes. However, we were cheated. It was so warm in the factory.

Following the tour guide and listening to different people talking about their work with so many specialty terms with such a high speaking speed could really make me feel exausted. I tried to be focused at first, but finally I give up. Thinking about some good things, such as food , travelling... made the time go faster. I have to say sorry to the speackers for not being able to be focused on their speech any more.

But I still have some gains. Although I couldn't understand totally, I could see so many advanced equipments. The big, clean, complexed factory is worthy to be a well-known one.

I don't know Chinese pharmaceutical factories, so, no comparison, no more conclusion...

But wait,
